Peace Talks (Pivotal)

We bought Stoneyford Lane as a yearling from Tattersalls book 2 October sale 2015 for the Ocean Four partnership. He cost £7000 and I’d been at the sales for two days and at approx 8.30pm I bought this handsome stocky bay colt who’s sire Bushranger wasn’t the most fashionable but who’s dam had bred a winner from just one runner. After signing the paperwork I was leaving the ring and David Easterby offered me £150 profit to take him off my hands, I confidently declined, it had been a long day and I’d finally managed to afford a horse I wanted.

We arrived home and soon discovered he was quite an aggressive horse, he would bite, kick, pin you up the wall so we castrated him after just 3 days. The vet who couldn’t prevent him from kicking out even under sedation had to adopt a different method to castrate him. The job was done, and I recall the vet running from his box as he had come to rather quickly and unexpectedly and chased him out of the stable!

Stoney was however, a dream to start and didn’t put a foot wrong under saddle, an absolute gentleman to ride which made dealing with him on the ground somewhat more bearable.

He won his first ever start at Bath and went on to win two more races and was placed 3 times from 29 starts with his highest rating of 80. He took us to Chester and Royal Ascot and we had some wonderful days with him.

Unfortunately, after a freak accident in his stable where he was having a roll, something he loved to do, he bashed his hock and had to have it flushed 3 times. Amazingly he pulled through but he was never the same, so we decided to find him a nice home to enjoy a quieter life.

Our first attempt at this failed as he was sent back for biting someone, then he found a new owner Charlotte! She understood you couldn’t kiss and cuddle him, you had to respect his space and I assured her the ride was worth it.

He’s been with Charlotte for nearly 3 years, and she competed him show jumping, hunter trials and dressage and he is truly loving life with her.
