Al Simmo and Angel Shared come close at York Steph Hollinshead Racing

Al Simmo and Angel Shared (pictured above) both came second in their respective races at York on Friday (16 June 2023).

Al Simmo, for owner Ray Bailey, and ridden by Clifford Lee, made her seasonal debut in the 3pm ‘British EBF Supporting Racing With Pride Fillies’ Handicap 6f, Class 2 on Good to firm ground, and took the eventual winner Radio Goo Goo, to a photo finish where the winner won by a ‘nose’.

Angel Shared built on her encouraging debut a few weeks back at Haydock with another impressive run for the Beaudesert Racing 1 syndicate in the 4.10pm ‘Juddmonte British EBF Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes (Juddmonte/GBB/IRE Incentive Race) (Class 2) (2yo) 5f on Good to Firm ground’. Angel, ridden by Duran Fentiman, was a little reluctant to enter the stalls but soon got out and was prominent throughout the race hitting the front 1 furlong out before succumbing to the eventual winner Harvanna by 1 1/2 lengths.

“Both fillies came out of their respective races well and on another day we could have been celebrating a double victory. Al Simmo threw down a mighty challenge to Radio Goo Goo who has had a prolific strike rate this season having won 5 out of her last 6 races. That was Simmo’s best performance to date and she gave the winner 9lb. We were really pleased with Angel Shared too who continues to make good progress and dug in to get second when coming under pressure after briefly leading the pack,” said Steph.
